Over the years, we have had many women turn to us with sensitive issues. Many of them do not like to discuss such personal matters, but they are desperate for help. One issue that these women turn to us for help with is their vagina.
When women feel discomfort or pain in tight jeans or notice they can see their labia protruding in everyday clothing that they become concerned enough to speak to a doctor about it. This is when many women turn to their gynecologist to ask what can be done, and eventually turn to a plastic surgeon.
If you’ve been experiencing pain or feel uncomfortable because your labia hangs too low or is misshapen, you may be a good candidate for labiaplasty.
What Is Labiaplasty?
This is a procedure that improves the appearance of the external genitalia. This is where the clitoral hood, labia majora, and labia minora are located. The labia minora’s size can be reduced and the appearance of the vagina greatly improved.
Most women notice their vagina is different after delivery of a child because of the stretching that occurs with the baby passing through the birth canal.
The vaginal area can also darken during this time due to pregnancy hormones. Labiaplasty can remove the darkened areas of tissue, tighten the labia minora by removing excess tissue, and restructuring it.
Why Women Seek Labiaplasty
There are some women, particularly in the adult industry, that seek a labiaplasty solely to improve the appearance of their vagina. However, most other women seek this procedure because it is uncomfortable for them to sit or they feel self-conscious during sex.
A woman in an online forum stated this, “When having sex it would get in the way and sometimes feel like it was ripping and pulling and so embarrassing having to move your big lips or extra skin out of the way constantly. I felt sexy/confident with everything about myself but I felt my vagina was holding me back from being with people since I had the constant thought of scaring them away with my lady parts.”
With a labiaplasty, women are able to feel confident during intimacy and completely comfortable when wearing anything that fits tight in the vaginal area.
The same woman had this to say after her procedure, “So far I would say that it was overall worth it. I feel more comfortable with nothing hanging and rubbing against my clothing. Things look a lot more even and smaller.”
About the Procedure
If you’re considering a labiaplasty, you probably want to know what to expect. A local anesthetic (numbing) with IV sedation is all that is needed. Don’t worry; you will be comfortable and feel sleepy during the procedure.
There are two types of incisions: V excision (width-based incision) and longitudinal excision (lengthwise incision). The latter is the one we prefer because it leads to a cleaner appearance following surgery and preserves blood supply for excellent healing afterwards.
