How many times a day do you say something negative about yourself? Many women do it at least 8 times a day, and they don’t even realize it.
A recent Weight Watchers survey revealed that women are more likely to see beauty in other women than in themselves. The survey was given to 2,000 women. They were asked a series of questions regarding beliefs about their beauty and the beauty of other women. Most of the women reported they criticize themselves an average of 8 times a day.
Most of the criticisms had to do with:
The survey revealed other behaviors many women engage in regarding how they feel about others and themselves. Many of the women reported they don’t accept compliments. While they may say thank you and smile, they don’t internalize those compliments. They don’t believe them.
Women also deflect compliments. Approximately 89 percent of them would give other women compliments that they wouldn’t believe themselves. Why? Many of them simply don’t believe they are as beautiful as someone says they are.
Why Women Criticize Themselves
Experts believe women criticize themselves more nowadays because of the surge in photos, selfies, and social networks such as Instagram. Not only are women looking at themselves on these mediums, but they are looking at other women as well…and they are comparing.
One of the features women notice first about other women is weight. Many women who see a photo of someone who is heavier will simply ignore it, and look for a woman who looks thinner. Often times, they will then use that image to play the “comparison game.”
Women should see themselves as who they are, not in relation to others. Of course, this is much easier said than done. It’s why so many women decide to live a healthier lifestyle by changing their eating habits and exercising to lose weight. Sometimes, they also seek quick, easy ways to achieve the appearance they desire through plastic surgery.
Some of the most common procedures women seek in New York and Long Island are:
Our surgical team has noticed several trends:
- Women want larger breasts with a small frame, so they diet and exercise to lose the pounds. Since losing fat often results in losing breast size, breast implants offer an effective way to achieve voluptuous breasts without weight gain.
- Since the abdominal area is notorious for being a stubborn area to lose weight and tone, a tummy tuck with liposuction can help. Removing the fat with liposuction and getting a tummy tuck to tone the area leaves behind a flat, tight stomach.
- The nose takes center stage on the face. It’s why many women believe a rhinoplasty will help improve their overall appearance. Many of them want their nose narrower and smaller through the tip.
