If you’ve googled the question “Will Chest Exercises Help Get Rid of Gynecomastia?” in search of the perfect workout routine to help you reduce your breast size, you’re in good company.

Thousands of men with this condition turn to creams, pills, and exercises in search of how to get rid of man boobs (as they are so lovingly called).

The good news is that gynecomastia is curable. The bad news is that anything short of surgery will not make an impact. Here’s why.

What Causes Gynecomastia

Some men assume that their expanding breasts are due to not watching their calories or deciding not to hit the gym for several months. That’s definitely not the case in the majority of situations.

Although a condition called pseudogynecomastia is real and can be brought about by being obese, the condition is reversible with weight loss and exercise. Body fat accumulates all over the body when weight is gained, but pseudogynecomastia is a bit different.

Fat produces estrogen, the main hormone responsible for breast growth. When men have too much body fat, their breasts can begin to enlarge due to too much estrogen in the blood stream. Once the weight is lost, however, the breasts disappear along with the pounds.

With true gynecomastia, even thin males can begin to develop female-like breasts with increased fatty tissue and protrusion of the nipples. This condition is brought on by too much estrogen in the body; not caused by body fat.

The causes of gynecomastia can be one or more of the following:

  • Alcohol abuse
  • Marijuana use
  • Prescription drugs
  • Heroine or methamphetamine use
  • Genetic conditions such as Klinefelter’s Syndrome
  • Testicular tumor (cancerous or benign)
  • The use of steroids to build muscles

Why Chest Exercises Don’t Work

Imagine a woman with very small breasts (an “A” cup, for example) going to the gym and working out her chest muscles. Her pectorals will get firmer and larger over time, but the fatty tissue and nipple tissue that lies on top of the muscle will remain intact. In fact, her breasts may appear larger once the underlying muscle is built up.

Similarly, when a man with gynecomastia builds up his pectoral muscles, the condition will appear more pronounced. The effect that he was going for will be lost.

Fatty tissue from this condition does not “burn off” like body fat does. Additionally, breast gland tissue is solid tissue and cannot be burned off or removed without surgery.

Surgery is the Only Treatment for Gynecomastia

Contrary to what “experts” and pill & cream companies will tell you, male breast reduction surgery is the only effective and permanent way to get rid of gynecomastia.

With our unique techniques, patients can undergo the procedure without the use of dangerous general anesthesia. We use laser liposuction to gently melt away the fat cells that have established themselves and remove them completely and permanently.

Breast gland tissue is removed by hand and the breasts are reshaped with the artful skill of our master sculptors. Our highly-qualified plastic and cosmetic surgeons have been specializing in this procedure for years and are some of the best in New York according to our own patients.
