Turia Pitt is a woman of great courage and power. A marathon runner has conquered one of the most tragic events of her life, one that ripped away her physical, emotional and mental strength. She is the picture of what true beauty looks like.

An Unimaginable Tragedy

Before September 2011, Pitt was an ultra-marathoner. She was also a model. She was having the time of her life until she was unexpectedly caught in a brush fire in Kimberley, Australia during a race.

The fire burned 65 percent of her body. Since that day, she’s had 100 surgeries, her fingers amputated, and she’s spent almost 900 days in the hospital. Doctors didn’t think she was going survive, but she did.

She survived, and she overcame it all to show every woman out there that beauty isn’t all about what you look like on the outside.

It’s been only three years, yet Pitt has already taught herself how to walk again, rode her bike from Sydney to Uluru, swam a 20 kilometer race, and walked the Great Wall of China.

As Pitt puts so eloquently:

“We all have that inner strength, but rarely do we get the chance to see how incredible we truly are. I’ve had to claw my way back into life – learn to work, to talk. All the things I had taken for granted before became seemingly impossible tasks.”

Giving Back to Others

Besides doing biking and swimming marathons, Pitt helps the ReSurge International; an organization that supports burn victims with free surgeries in undeveloped countries. She’s also written a book, “Everything To Live For.”

Pitt is on Instagram posting photos of herself. She is not ashamed of her scars. She shows them off proudly because they are what has made her such a strong person today. She is the face of true beauty because she has shown everyone that you can overcome any troubles in your life as long as you never give up.
