Labiaplasty in Manhattan and Long Island has become quite the talk of the town. The increase in this procedure goes right along with the uptick in the number of procedures also being performed across the country.
While we love that women are deciding to have labiaplasty, we want to remind them what it will not do.
Satisfaction After Labiaplasty
We want our patients to be 100% satisfied with their plastic surgery procedure, so we attempt to provide a realistic view of the results that can be expected. During a free consultation, we explain what the procedure entails and the changes that can be expected. We also discuss what a labiaplasty won’t be able to do.
Confidence is something that many women seek when they decide to have labiaplasty. They want the appearance of their genitals to be balanced. Some desire their outer and inner lips to not protrude.
Actually, labiaplasty is sometimes called “Barbie surgery” because the dolls often have genitals that are nearly undetectable when clothed.
While “perfect-looking genitals” may help some women feel more confident in their appearance, it doesn’t necessarily have that effect. It depends on what the person is really basing her confidence on. Besides, perfection should never be something that a plastic surgeon promises a patient…that end result is impossible!
Having better-looking genitals will not guarantee a better sex life. It doesn’t guarantee the women will have a sexual partner waiting in line for her. It also doesn’t help with how she may feel about her other body parts. It simply will make her feel better about her nether regions. That’s it.
Does this mean you shouldn’t go through with a labiaplasty if confidence is your issue? No. But it means you should consider whether or not the procedure will make a difference in confidence for you personally.
If you feel as though the surgery will make you more attractive and confident both inside and outside of the bedroom, it’s probably a good idea. If you’re thinking that it would be nice to have the correction done, but there are other areas you want to have worked on, you may want to consider what is most important first – whether that be simply working on personal development or seeking other plastic surgery procedures first.
