During our free consultations in Manhattan and Commack, Long Island, we often encourage patients to live a healthy and active lifestyle, both before and after plastic surgery.

For many people, losing weight and exercising can help them achieve their desired look or at least help them get closer to it. It’s sometimes only after everything has been done and they eventually realize that genetics are against them that plastic surgery is considered.

Since changing lifestyle habits can be incredibly difficult, we wanted to share an inspirational story of a woman who was able to reach her weight loss goals.

Joanna Pearson – Taking Back Control

Joanna Pearson set out on a mission to lose weight after she was unable to buckle her seatbelt on an airplane and had to ask for an extender, which embarrassed her greatly. She was 410 pounds at her heaviest. With diet and exercise, she was able to lose 185 pounds.

She started with taking walks, and stopped drinking sodas and eating fast food. To make it interesting, she would sometimes do at-home workouts. In just one year, she was able to lose 100 pounds. That was exactly what she needed to keep going.

To speed up her weight loss, she decided to hire a personal trainer. It only took her eight months to lose 75 more pounds. Today, she lost a total of 200 pounds in just 2 ½ years.

What helped Joanna the most was her very own mother who encouraged her by buying her a new pair of sneakers for every weight loss milestone. She earned 12 pairs by the time she reached 200 pounds of weight loss.

The future is looking bright for Joanna. She isn’t stopping her personal goals. She’s continuing to challenge herself. For example, she decided to run the Spartan Race and was able to complete 4.5 miles with her sister right beside her.

It’s not easy, though. It can be difficult to keep the weight off. Stress has led her to recently gain 35 pounds. The good news is she was able to lose most of it again by working with a nutritionist. While it can be hard to keep the weight off, she shows that it is possible with effort and commitment.

We wanted to tell Joanna’s story because we feel it can be a great inspiration for many people who visit our blog. We know it can be difficult to start and commit to a healthy lifestyle. Losing weight can be a slow process, and keeping it off can seem more difficult than it’s worth.

However, people like Joanna show all of us that it’s worth it to keep reaching for healthy weight goals. Despite all of the struggles, being able to look in the mirror and smile can be the most gratifying reward of all.

Wishing you a long life of health, happiness, and beauty from your friends at Advanced Cosmetic Surgery of New York.
