The spare tire tummy plagues many people. It’s caused a sedentary life, which is typical these days with so many people using technology to make a living. Spending most of the day sitting isn’t all that causes this type of tummy, though; eating sugary foods adds to it.
Solutions for a Spare Tire Tummy
The good news is that a spare tire tummy is one of the easiest problems to solve. It simply consists of moving more and eating healthier foods.
Exercise doesn’t have to be exhausting to work. Walking 30 minutes a day can be beneficial in many ways, including reducing the risk of heart disease. It can also make a huge difference in shedding a spare tire.
Avoiding sugar and refined carbohydrates (think white flour products that come in a box) are essential for losing excess fat in the midsection. This includes cakes, white bread, pasta, and white rice.
Unfortunately, for many of you, alcohol is also a problem. The sugar in alcohol goes straight to the waist. Cutting down on consumption can lead to a flatter, much leaner abdominal area, especially when you couple it with exercise.
As you’re changing your eating habits, it’s best to eat whole foods such as vegetables, fruits, lean meats, whole grains, etc. Processed foods or diet foods/snacks often contain chemicals, sugar, salt, and preservatives. It’s all for intensifying a flavor that is unnatural.
While you may not like whole foods at first (because you won’t be used to the blandness of it), your taste buds will adjust, and then you’ll be able to enjoy what fresh, real foods taste like.
As much as calorie counting seems to be the best way to lose weight, don’t depend on it. Instead, eat healthy foods when you’re hungry. Listen to your body and it will tell you when you should eat. When you do eat, choose fresh foods. And never overdo it just because a food is healthy! Eating too much of anything creates a calorie surplus that can lead to weight gain.
As always, consult with your doctor before changing your eating habits or starting an exercise routine. And if you need help with knowing what to eat, enlist the services of a medical professional such as a nutritionist or Registered Dietitian.
