Late last year, US Weekly magazine released pictures of Farrah Abraham, known for her appearances in the MTV show Teen Mom, in surgery after a nose job procedure. The former reality television star, now 21, received a $16,000 rhinoplasty and chin plant procedure from a local plastic surgeon in Beverly Hills, CA.
The procedure follows a breast augmentation Abraham received in 2011, going from an A to a C cup (from usmagazine.com).
Even though Abraham is now a young woman, her decision to undergo cosmetic surgery was met with a backlash of negative criticism. Many people did not think the reality star should get it because her show was viewed by thousands of teenagers worldwide who looked up to her.
Much like the surgery of The Hills star Heidi Montag, plastic surgery among young people can spark a hot debate about whether cosmetic surgery can affect teenagers negatively.
The Truth about Teens and Rhinoplasty
Rhinoplasty is the most popular plastic surgery among teens, closely followed by breast augmentation. Plastic surgery among teenagers is on the rise, and it’s not for the reasons that you may think. Instead of trying to improve their looks, many teens seek out a facial plastic surgeon for health reasons or to relieve bullying.
Rhinoplasty surgery can help correct breathing problems that a lot of teens can suffer from, such as a deviated septum and narrow nasal passages. Many teens, as well as their parents, report an increase in their well-being, self-esteem and body image after undergoing plastic surgery.
