Whenever patients hear we may need to break their nose for their rhinoplasty procedure, they cringe. Nasal bone fracture is routine for many nose jobs because it’s the only way to make the adjustments needed to achieve the look desired.
The drawback to breaking the nose is that there are some risks. Secondary fractures and irregularities are two of those risks to consider. While these complications are rare, they are possible, so plastic surgeons around the world have been trying to come up with a better way to perform nose jobs.
Recently, a French plastic surgeon by the name of Dr. Olivier Gerbault developed an instrument called ‘ultrasonic rhinosculpting.’ This instrument should help make rhinoplasty much less invasive because it uses ultrasound waves.
With ultrasound, Dr. Gerbault reports that results are more natural-looking because the instrument helps plastic surgeons with precision when making the adjustments to the patient’s nose. “Instead of breaking the bones ‘blind’, as we have been doing until now, ultrasonic rhinosculpture allows us to sculpt via direct visual control,” says Dr. Gerbault.
In addition to improved results, the instrument could lead to shorter recovery time and less bruising. Patients would love this because they can get back to their lives much faster, and not have to worry about hiding their face until healing is complete.
The instrument is not yet available for use. It will be revealed at the IMRHIS Rhinoplasty World Congress in Versailles.
Until this revolutionary instrument hits the market, we will continue to perform rhinoplasties in the ways we have been trained to perform them. The techniques we use have been used for many years by the top plastic surgeons in the country. You can trust in our experience and skill when it comes to achieving the nose you’ve always dreamed of having.
