When it comes to your appearance, vitality matters.  As much as we might like to think that we don't tend to make snap impressions based on appearances; the fact is that all humans do this.  Therefore, facial rejuvenation procedures are highly popular because most of us would like to make a good first impression.

One such in-demand treatment is laser resurfacing, which is quite complementary other procedures.

Why Lasers for Skin Rejuvenation Work

Laser resurfacing, using state-of-the-art laser technology, allows for an immense amount of control and precision in delicate areas.  You may also hear of laser resurfacing referred to as a laser peel, lasabrasion or laser vaporization.

In this procedure, pulsating beams of light are concentrated on areas of irregular skin; removing damaged skin and unwanted flaws one layer at a time.  With the precision of laser technology, there is less risk of hypopigmentation, or a lack of pigment in the new skin.

Through this safe and effective procedure (which our doctors can refer you to), you can see vast improvement in minor facial flaws such as:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles, even in delicate areas around the eyes
  • Acne scars or scars from chickenpox
  • Sun damaged skin and age spots
  • Liver spots
  • Skin that is non-responsive after a facelift procedure
  • Warts or birthmarks
  • Yellow- or gray-ish skin tones
  • Large oil glands on the nose

Laser skin resurfacing works to remove the outer layer of skin and encourages the production of collagen.  This stimulation comes from the heating of the dermis, the layer of skin just below the epidermis.  As skin heals after laser resurfacing, new skin is smoother, firmer, and more youthful.

Following this cosmetic treatment, patients may experience red or pink skin that persists for several months.  This is common and is not indicative of a permanent appearance whatsoever.  Unlike many of the cosmetic procedures we offer, the full effects of laser skin resurfacing can take up to twelve months to show themselves.

During this time, it is essential that the patient minimize sun exposure as much as possible, as skin will be sensitive.  Applying high SPF sunscreen liberally, daily, is recommended as well. Our team recommends using post-laser resurfacing skin care products.

The laser skin resurfacing gives you a younger, more vibrant glow that will take years off your face.  While the effects of the procedure will last for several years, it does not stop the natural aging process, which is the primary cause for the development of fine lines, expression lines and wrinkles over time.

Since sun damage is a prime culprit of aging skin as well, ongoing sun protection will extend the youthful appearance gained from laser skin resurfacing.
