Having any type of surgery can bring about a certain amount of anxiety, even when it is a buttock procedure in our Brazilian Butt Lift New York surgical centers.
The main thing to keep in mind is that a buttock augmentation is going to make you feel significantly better about your appearance!
Here, we will discuss the particulars about this cosmetic procedure which we regularly perform in our AAAHC accredited Long Island plastic surgery centers.
Step-by-Step Buttock Augmentation Information
Step 1: Anesthesia and Liposuction
At the time of surgery, the patient is placed under local or general anesthesia. General anesthesia is the norm for many other surgeons in New York, however, at Advanced Cosmetic Surgery of New York, we use local anesthesia whenever possible. In rare cases, surgery will be done under general anesthesia in a local hospital under the care an expertise of an anesthesiologist.
Liposuction is then performed on the chosen area or areas of the body in order to obtain the "donor fat" that will be used to shape and contour the buttocks. This part of the process also improves the overall appearance of the body as the areas where fat is extracted from will appear smaller and more sculpted. Typically, fat is removed from the love handles, abdomen, and thighs.
Step 2: Donor Fat from Your Own Body
Once the donor fat is collected, it is processed and purified for optimal reinsertion into the buttocks. Now, our surgeons get to show their artistic abilities by carefully inserting fat into the various areas of the buttocks, paying special attention to different depths and locations.
Using precise, individual injections, the our Brazilian Butt Lift New York surgeon will take into consideration the desired outcome as discussed in your consultation. Based on each patient's wishes and the surgeon's best judgment, fat is injected into just the right areas so as to achieve the results desired. As fat is injected, the surgeon will use massage techniques to ensure fat is evenly distributed; facilitating a smooth and properly contoured backside.
Step 3: Will the Fat Remain in Place?
Due to the nature of the autologous fat transfer process, it is natural that some of the transplanted fat will die. This is because of the initial lack of blood supply during the insertion process. The average survival rate of transferred fat is somewhere between 65 and 85 percent (estimated). The fat that dies off will be reabsorbed by the body.
Therefore, the surgeon will inject fat as close to the muscle tissue as possible, at deeper levels, in order to give transplanted fat the best chance at survival; but inevitably some will be reabsorbed. This will not cause results to be unacceptable however; even with some amount of fat dying off, a patient can expect to see a curvier, well-rounded backside after surgery.
Step 4: Post-Op Recovery
Initially following the procedure, the patient will experience some amount of swelling that will take time to subside. While swelling is present, the buttocks will look larger than it will a few months after the procedure has been completed. Understanding this fact will help patients avoid unrealistic expectations following this procedure.
Recovery from the Brazilian Butt Lift surgery, or BBL, is relatively simple. Patients may experience some slight bruising and swelling in the days that follow their surgery. There may be a bit of discomfort at injection sights, as well; but this can be alleviated with prescription painkillers (which we will provide for the first week) followed by over the counter pain medication when the prescription medication is finished.
Most patients can expect to return to work sometime within about two weeks (everyone is different); and a full return to normal physical activity, including exercise and sports, within 4-6 weeks.
