In our Long Island plastic surgery and New York City office locations, our focus is to restore and enhance the appearance of our patients. We do this by taking a multi-faceted approach.
Whereas some patients may be more interested in body procedures like SmartLipo or gynecomastia surgery, others are seeking to rejuvenate their appearance through non-surgical skin care treatment with BOTOX® Cosmetic or dermal fillers.
Regardless of your particular reasons for visiting us, we believe that skin care is an important factor in any patient’s overall aesthetic.
As we are coming to the end of harsh winter months, we look forward to warmer days of spring, where the sun peeks through the clouds and warms us from the inside out.
During this time, however, it is important to revisit sun protection recommendations and point out ways that you can get your skin glowing through healthy skin care practices.
Skin Pampering Tips from our Anti-Aging Specialists
Over the cold winter months, skin can easily become dried out and undernourished due to constant exposure to dry air, heated indoor air and even hot showers or baths. When the air is cold, we bundle up. We stay indoors, seeking solace from the harsh winter elements.
Consequently, skin is not exposed to fresh air, as it is during spring and summer months. This alone is enough to cause dry, rough patches or even red irritated areas. Doubled with the fact that we also tend to neglect what we do not see – think feet that are hidden inside thick socks and boots – it’s easy to see how we can emerge at the end of winter looking dull, dry and older than we want.
We treat a variety of skin concerns in our cosmetic surgery New York City and Long Island locations with precise skin care recommendations and effective cosmetic treatments, but there are also steps you can take at home to revive dull winter skin.
Couple those BOTOX® Cosmetic treatments with some serious spring pampering and you’ll feel ready for summer long before Memorial Day!
Why and How to Exfoliate Your Skin
Exfoliation is a huge part of preparing skin for spring, but this needs to be approached carefully so as not to irritate dry winter skin. The key is to get rid of dead skin cells through exfoliation. For the body, using a mild natural exfoliate such as brown sugar is sufficient to preparing for that first waxing session.
For several days in a row, simply rub the skin gently with brown sugar during a shower and rinse thoroughly. Some people like to make their own scrub designed to exfoliate and moisturize by adding coconut or avocado oil to brown sugar in a glass jar.
Exfoliating the face should be done with great care. Simply washing and moisturizing with a product that contains alpha-hydroxy acid is sufficient to slough off old skin cells and rejuvenate new cells.
After exfoliating, be sure to moisturize. Daytime moisturizers should include sunscreen with at least 30 SPF, and nighttime moisturizers should be maximum strength for a greater degree of moisturizing.
