According to research in the UK, there were 4,617 men who received plastic surgery in 2015. Only 2,440 men underwent plastic surgery in 2005. This is almost a 50% increase in 10 years. Most of these men sought eyelid surgery with rhinoplasty being the next popular procedure. Gynecomastia surgery was also popular, as the percentage of men who had this surgery increased by 13 percent.

Why More Men Are Seeking Plastic Surgery

The British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeon (BAAPS) reports the reason behind the increase in surgeries for men has to do with the change in their desires. For many years, men desired to be “lumbersexual.” A rugged, manly look typical of a lumberjack. Now, they want to look more clean and tight – much like a professional businessman.

While fat transfer wasn’t the most popular procedure for men, there was an increase in the number of procedures performed on males. This potentially shows men wanting that lean, tight physique typical of models.

This makes sense because it’s the models and celebrities that may be partially driving the increase in plastic surgeries for men and women. As more celebrities admit to having surgery, people see that it is possible to achieve that glamorous look.

All they have to do is make small adjustments to their appearance through plastic and cosmetic surgery procedures.

Eyelids, Nose Jobs, and Gynecomastia

Eyelid lifts (blepharoplasty), rhinoplasty, and gynecomastia procedures were the most popular in 2015 for UK men. This means men are most interested in preserving their youth and enhancing their facial and body features.

Eyelid surgeries are meant to lift the eyelids since age often brings them down. The rise in rhinoplasties is probably due to the new perception of plastic surgeries being acceptable, societally speaking. While gynecomastia surgery means that more men are finding that it is possible to treat their condition.
