Eye Lift Advice for Aging Eyes:
Our faces are expressive from the moment of our birth-cry all the way to the end of life, so it’s not surprising they are one of the first places we begin to show signs of aging.
Patients in our blepharoplasty New York surgical centers can enjoy a safe procedure that removes excess skin and gives a more youthful appearance to the entire face.
Why do the eyes age so dramatically? Because the skin around the eyes, in particular, is among the most delicate and fine tissue on our body.
As a result, it is easily prone to fine lines, wrinkles, and loose, sagging skin. In some cases, excess skin on the upper lid can even hinder one’s ability to see.
How Blepharoplasty is Done
Depending upon the extent of damage from aging and the sun, patients may undergo an upper eyelid, lower eyelid, or dual eyelid lift procedure.
For the upper eyelid lift, an incision is made in the crease of the upper lid so that when the patient heals, the scar will be imperceptible. The eye surgeon will then remove excess saggy skin from the upper eyelid so that when it is rejoined, the eye represents a younger, tighter upper lid.
For the lower lid procedure, an incision is made on the inside of the lower eyelid. This is a scarless procedure because the incisions made are completely hidden on the inner lid. Most patients will have one or more of the following lower eyelid issues needing correction:
- Extra fat (under eye bags) in the lower lid
- Loose muscles under the eye that cause additional bulging
- Skin that has lost elasticity and is sagging
Once the above issues have been remedied to the surgeons satisfaction, the inner eyelid incision is closed using dissolvable sutures that will be absorbed into the body and will not need to be removed. Healing for either type of patients after blepharoplasty surgery takes about 4 weeks for swelling and bruising to go away. An additional 6 months to one year are needed for full healing.
