The holidays are fast approaching, and you know what that means – pictures!
Most of us think the same thoughts as pictures are taken. Some of these thoughts are:
- I hope this picture will look okay.
- Maybe I should smile like this, so my double chin doesn’t show.
- Let me relax my eyes, so my crow’s feet don’t show.
- I’ll just turn my head to the side a little, so my nose doesn’t look too large.
- I need to stay in the back, so the picture doesn’t show how much weight I’ve gained.
If you’ve had these thoughts or similar ones, rest assured that you’re not alone. We hear from patients day in and day out who feel the same way! It’s hard these days when pictures are shared on social media, through email, and mass texts.
The good news is that there are some ways you can ensure you look your best in holiday pictures.
Ensuring Your Eyes Are Open
If you tend to squint of close your eyes in pictures, try closing them before the picture is taken. Open your eyes as the picture is being taken, and you’ll be more likely to have them open at the right time. Practice at home with someone’s help, so you can time it perfectly.
Avoiding Double Chin
Be sure to elongate your neck, and push your face forward to avoid a double chin. Try taking pictures with the camera above your head so that you angle your head upward, hiding the chin. You can also stick out your forehead and then slightly put your chin down. This may sound weird, but give it a try a few times in selfie mode on your phone. It’s amazing how well this works!
Opening the Eyes for a Twinkle
The eyes are the focal point of your face. To bring attention to them, be sure to wear mascara and curl your lashes. You will love the effect it has on the way your face looks in pictures!
Slimming Down for the Picture
You can instantly look slimmer simply by doing the “red carpet” pose. Put your hand on your hip and angle your body to the side. Your face should be turned towards the camera with a slight tilt. It may feel unnatural at first, but it will make you look great in the picture.
