Chinese Teen “Too Beautiful to Look At” After Extreme Plastic Surgery

South Korea is referred to as the “plastic surgery capital of the world” because of the sheer number of people who decide to have it done. One in seventy-two South Koreans undergoes plastic surgery.

This doesn’t make it much of a surprise that parents often gift their children plastic surgery to congratulate them after they complete the United States equivalent of high school. The underlying reasons are interesting.

Beauty in the Korean Culture

Korean parents generally pay between $1,000 to $3,000 (in USD) for their graduates to have plastic surgery before entering college. The most popular procedure is double eyelid surgery. Koreans often have double eyelids, which make their eyes appear smaller (vertically).

Many people in the Korean culture believe this makes them look angry when they are not smiling. With double eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty, the second eyelid is resolved by creating a crease. This produces a smoother transition from the lower eyelid to the cheek, which makes the eyes appear larger.

In the Korean culture, appearance means a lot. A beautiful face is a great weapon because attractive people are often chosen first for career opportunities. Of course, this is not a rule of thumb, but parents believe attractiveness has a lot to do with how successful people become in life.

It’s obvious that parents in South Korea have an overwhelming sense of pride for their children. When they see they are on the path of success, they want to give them every chance they can to make it in life.

This isn’t too different from what parents in the United States want for their children. The belief that attractiveness trumps intelligence isn’t something unheard of in the states, either. It just seems to be much more emphasized and obvious in certain cultures.

Success and Beauty in the United States

In the United States, people often seek plastic surgery to help with career opportunities. It was rumored that Hilary Clinton received plastic surgery before running for President because she felt improving her beauty would make a difference.

Many men and women often search for the “fountain of youth” through plastic surgery to help their chances of a promotion or getting a new job as well.

Often times, the real reason people succeed after receiving plastic surgery is because of a boost in confidence. Being confident can help bring out the best in people, which is what really makes it possible for them to get promoted or land a new job.
