If a women is simply unhappy with how her stomach looks, the research shows it [tummy tuck] may help her have a more positive body image. – Jean Fain, M.S.W., Harvard Psychotherapist
You’ve had a baby and you’ve lost the baby weight. Congratulations!
There might be just one thing stopping you from being really excited about it – your tummy.
While your beautiful baby looks at you with a huge smile, you may be look at your stomach imagining the days when you could wear a two piece confidently without concern of loose, wrinkly sagging skin.
You are not alone.
Women everywhere struggle with dissatisfaction with their post-pregnancy body. The reality is that you’ve done an amazing thing – you’ve had a baby. Your body has gone through a lot, and not everyone’s body can naturally go right back to the way it was before.
We want you to know -- There is nothing wrong with you.
Do not beat yourself up over your body’s inability to give you the tight, lean stomach you once had before having your bundle of joy. This is natural. There is nothing you have done to make your belly the way it is right now. Most women’s tummies take on a different shape, size, and texture after they have a baby.
However, this doesn’t mean there is nothing you can do about it.
We know the psychological effects a post-pregnancy belly can have on women. We honor women and appreciate everything they do for the world. We want them to be happy and proud of their accomplishments without being weighed down by the body’s after effects of pregnancy.
That’s why we offer tummy tucks at our cosmetic and plastic surgery offices in New York City and Long Island. We want to give women the tight, lean and beautiful belly they had before pregnancy.
Tummy tuck patients receive general anesthesia under the care of an anesthesiologist. The surgeon will make an incision in an area that will be easily hidden with panties or a bikini bottom. The skin is then separated from the abdominal muscles.
The surgeon tightens the rectus abdominus muscles with stitches. This flattens the abdominal area, which offers a thinner appearance. It’s much like a corset, but an internal one.
Any excess skin is then removed. The skin flap attached to the top is pulled down, so that it is taut, and then the excess skin is cut away and discarded. The belly button is repositioned on the abdominal wall (a hole is cut in the skin so it can be pulled thorugh and sewn into place), and the final stitching is done with dissolvable stitches.
