In our NYC and Long Island centers, patients come in with an array of questions relating to the mommy makeover procedure we offer. As a mother, it’s very important to research the procedure thoroughly, understand the risks, and find a highly-qualified plastic or cosmetic surgeon to perform the procedure.

You deserve to get your body back! We hope you find these FAQs about mommy makeover to be helpful in your decision making process.

Q: What is a mommy makeover?

A: Mommy makeovers are designed for mothers and the specific body concerns they have after pregnancy. First, the tummy can be tightened and flattened with an abdominoplasty procedure. Some moms require a full tummy tuck while others only need a mini tummy tuck.

This procedure also involves restoration of the breasts. Whatever issues exist, such as breast sagging, loss of volume, or too much volume, our highly-qualified plastic and cosmetic surgeons can help you. This can include one or more of the following procedures: breast augmentation with implants, a breast lift, or breast reduction.

Q: I have a hernia near my belly button. Can I still have a mommy makeover?

A: Yes, absolutely! A General Surgeon will repair your hernia, while your plastic/cosmetic surgeon will address skin reduction and muscle tightening aspects of your tummy tuck surgery. Your plastic surgeon will also be the one to perform any breast surgery you elect to have.

Q: If I had a C-section, will I still get good results?

A: Yes. A C-section scar near the pubic area is the same location where your tummy tuck incision will be. For patients getting a full tummy tuck, the incision may need to be widened, depending upon what your specific C-section scar looks like. Any scar tissue in the skin or muscle layers will be trimmed away by the surgeon to produce a flat contour and tightened tummy.

Q: Can I have more children after a mommy makeover?

A: This is not recommended. Since this procedure is designed to restore the physical damage done by pregnancy such as stretched skin and muscles, if you get pregnant again you will likely lose the results from your mommy makeover.

Q: What is the recovery time from a mommy makeover?

A: Recovery from a mommy makeover takes about 4-6 weeks. For the first two weeks, expect to be off from work completely and have someone there to help you in and out of bed as well as lift your children.

After about two weeks, most patients can resume normal daily activities, but you will need to follow your doctor’s specific instructions for lifting your children, exercising, and any other strenuous activity. A compression garment will need to be worn for about 4-6 weeks afterward.
