One of the first questions people have when they are considering a rhinoplasty is, “How long is the recovery time?”. They are usually concerned about when they can go back to work and get back to their active lifestyle.
Understanding the process of recovery after a nose job can help you determine how long you’ll need to take it easy and stay indoors.
After a rhinoplasty, your nose will continue to change and heal for up to 12 months. This doesn’t mean that you need to hide for a year; you’ll start to feel and look like your normal self in much less time!
The external splint on your nose will be removed after about one week. Your nose will appear swollen. After the second week, you’ll start to see that most of the swelling and bruising has subsided.
Most people won’t be able to tell you’ve had surgery. This is the time when you can step out into public without fearing someone will ask you, “What happened to your nose?”
Physical Activity After Nose Surgery
It’s best to wait another couple of weeks to start your normal active lifestyle. While the nose may appear healed after only two weeks, what’s underneath the skin is still healing. Remember, it takes a few months before you see the results of your rhinoplasty and up to one full year for full healing, so there is work being done internally that you’ll need to protect. One bump could cause your nose severe damage, which could require surgery to repair.
Individual Differences With Recovery Time
Not everyone will be able to go back to work in two weeks. Some people will be ready before this time, and others will need more time. The recovery time depends on how much work had to be done, and how quickly the person heals. Two weeks is the average amount of time it takes for patients to feel comfortable showing off their beautiful nose.
Vacation Time Is Rhinoplasty Time
Many people save their vacation time in case they need it someday. A rhinoplasty is the perfect reason to use your vacation time. If you have about two weeks saved, why not consider getting that nose job that will help you feel better about the way you look?
