Are you a man who doesn’t want take his shirt off at the pool or beach because you have enlarged breasts? You don’t have to feel embarrassed anymore. With a simple procedure, you could say goodbye to the condition that you’ve been trying to hide for so long.

What Is Gynecomastia?

When glandular tissue and/or fatty tissue in the male breast become enlarged, it can indicate the presence of a condition known as gynecomastia. Hormones in the body are the cause for this enlargement.

Men with gynecomastia often have an excess of estrogen, which is the female sex hormone. Gynecomastia often starts in infancy and puberty. For some men, gynecomastia can be caused by medications, the abuse of illicit or prescription drugs, or health conditions such as chronic kidney failure, cirrhosis of the liver, or hyperthyroidism.

Gynecomastia causes male breasts to feel firm and rubbery. The breasts are often symmetrical, but some men experience a size difference between each breast. Breast tenderness and sensitivity is also common with this condition.

Treatment for Gynecomastia

For a permanent fix for gynecomastia, surgery is required. This treatment method is safe and delivers immediate results.

The procedure can be performed in our AAAHC accredited surgical suites. Patients receive a mild sedative and pain medications are given locally to the breasts to keep them comfortable. Numbing the chest ensures a pain-free procedure.

To remove fat tissue, tumescent laser liposuction with Smartlipo is performed. The laser liquefies the fat tissue, and then suction removes it from the treated areas. A scalpel is then used to remove the glandular tissue from the area using a semi-circle incision that is placed along the border of the nipple (areola).

With the Smartlipo procedure, patients do not have to deal with scars or stitches. Removal of glandular tissue requires some stitching and may leave a very faint scar which will fade over time and become virtually unnoticeable. The techniques used by Advanced Cosmetic Surgery of New York are minimally invasive ensuring you are able to walk out of the office with minimal recovery time and virtually no scarring.
