How the Procedure is Done at Our Fat Grafting New York and Fat Transfer NYC Centers

To harvest the fat from the body, our fat grafting New York surgeons use a unique method that involves only local anesthesia. We then use the tumescent method of liposuction to harvest the fat with the least amount of risks to the patient (less blood loss) and better recovery afterward. Tumescent fluid contains epinephrine which constricts blood vessels along with lidocaine (an anesthetic). It is injected into the area to be harvested. These substances work together so that when the patient wakes up they are comfortable. A liposuction cannula is then inserted repeatedly into the area by our fat transfer NYC surgeon to separate and remove fat particles so they can be moved to the new area(s).

The fat is then purified so that the blood and other non-fat components are removed. After this is complete, the fat can be placed into any area of the body desired. You may think that fat grafting is a temporary solution like many of the synthetic dermal fillers on the market. However, studies have found that after three months, about 80% of the fat remains in the area where it was grafted to.
