Fat transfer is a great option to allow you to create the contoured, slender body you desire. You may be wondering how it works, but the procedure is easy to understand, is performed quickly, and is successful on nearly all body types.
What Is Fat Transfer?
Fat transfer is a fairly recent breakthrough in the field of cosmetic surgery. It allows fat to be removed from unwanted areas (such as the tummy, hips, and thighs), purified, and then injected to desired areas (such as the breasts, butt, etc.).
Fat transfer allows for a kind of “recycling” that is healthier and safer for your body versus using foreign objects such as implants. Using adipose tissue also allows you to custom create the curves you desire so you can look your best.
Where Can Fat Be Transferred To?
Fat can be taken from many different places in the body where it un wanted and injected to other places where one may prefer a volumizing effect. For example, fat can be transferred to facilitate:
- Breast augmentation
- A Brazilian butt lift
- The repairing of scars or other depressions in the body
- The filling of creases and deep wrinkles on the face, neck, and hands
How Does the Process Work?
After the fat is harvested with liposuction, it is then purified using a special process that separates the fat from the blood and other byproducts of the liposuction procedure.
Once it is ready, it is then re-injected into the new site(s) through a needle syringe. The technique used allows for the fat to be evenly distributed and added to each area without lumps or bumps.
When the fat is reintroduced to the body, it is done slowly so that the exact shape that is desired can be sculpted and so there are no issues with lumpiness or uneven distribution. About 75% of the transferred fat remains in the treated areas, so the surgeon will overfill by about 25% so that enough fat remains to give the patient her desired final result.
How Long Does It Take to Recover?
Usually, it takes just a few short weeks for a person to recover from fat transfer. Because it requires multiple steps and injections, a fat transfer is considered an intense procedure, and patients are encouraged to wait an ample amount of time for the final result and to avoid strenuous activities for the first few weeks. A compression garment must be worn for a prescribed amount of time in order to help the treated areas heal properly.
Is It Really Better to Get a Fat Transfer?
This is a smart procedure because the place where the harvested fat comes from is taken via a liposuction procedure. This allows the person to slim their body in areas that will help create the figure they have in mind. Additionally, when the fat is reintroduced, it is 100% from the individual’s body so there is no risk of an allergic reaction. With other aesthetic augmentations, implants are used, which raises the risk of complications and potential side effects.
