Liposuction is a great method for fat reduction. At my liposuction New York City and Long Island offices, we use SmartLipo with laser-assisted liposuction (LAL) technology for discernible results and minimal downtime.
While many believe that liposuction will make dieting and exercise a thing of the past, this is simply not true. Research has found that once you go through puberty, the number of fat cells in the body remains constant and no new cells are produced. This causes the common misconception that if the fat is sucked out you reduce your tendency to store fat.
Since it is impossible to remove every fat cell, the ones that remain after liposuction can still expand. If you take in more calories than your body needs, the calories will be turned into stored fat. The fat will, however, spread to the non-treated areas. For example, if you have had liposuction of the abdomen, you may be more likely to gain weight back in your thighs, arms or calves.
SmartLipo is a great way to remove fat in problem areas of the body. Patients should not, however, undergo liposuction as an alternative to eating a healthy diet and exercising regularly.
The healthiest way to prevent weight gain after liposuction is to watch one’s caloric intake and to keep active. If you maintain your body, you will maintain your results.
