In the last 12 months, news reports have followed Asia in its insatiable quest for plastic surgery, sometimes in the most extreme ways.
In fact, according to the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (ISAPS), 1 out of every 77 people in South Korea have had plastic surgery1.
For one 15-year old girl, the desire to win back an ex-boyfriend went to the extreme2. What she did next defies all sense of logic…she had plastic surgery to completely transform herself.
“Too Beautiful to Look At”
Lee Hee Danae appears to have had breast augmentation and numerous facial plastic surgery procedures in an attempt to win back the affections of an ex-boyfriend. She also has visible tattoos on her upper arms and is not your “typical Chinese teenager” in appearance.
Of course, since breaking through to so many news stations, her “likes” on social media have skyrocketed to over 400K. And so have the inappropriate comments from men. Not sure if this is the kind of attention she was going for, but nonetheless it’s here now.
She is now being referred to as the girl who is “too beautiful to look at”.
Trouble Getting Through Customs
Plastic surgery in South Korea has become so prevalent, in fact, that women from China and throughout Asia are traveling to South Korea for their procedures.
Of course, a passport is required for entry and exit from a foreign country. Except in these cases, the women no longer resemble their passport pictures on their way home!
Chinese news company CEN is quoted as describing the women’s facial procedures as being completely transforming to the point where they are “almost unrecognizable”3.
South Korean hospitals are now providing many patients with certificates of plastic surgery to verify their identity and that their appearance has changed since coming into the country. This helps them to more easily pass through customs and get back home again.
Plastic Surgery for the RIGHT Reasons
At Advanced Cosmetic Surgery of New York, one of the factors we consider is the mental state of the patient. During your free consultation, we’ll ask you why you want surgery so we can determine whether your motives are healthy and will result in being happy after surgery.
For patients like Lee Hee Danae, we would pass up the opportunity to perform surgery. It is simply unhealthy to change one’s appearance in order to “win back” an ex. Surgery should always be done for yourself and no one else.
Once the rejection becomes permanent and the patient is left with their altered appearance, they will often times wish they could reverse their surgical results.
If you want to have surgery to boost confidence or correct a physical issue, call us today. Our highly-qualified plastic and cosmetic surgeons are standing by to meet with you in Commack, Long Island or Manhattan, NYC.
