“I am proud of me for doing something healthy for me instead of worrying about how sexy I’ll look.” This is quote from a member of the cosmetic-surgery forum RealSelf.com. She refers to having her breast implants removed.
The Explants Trend
Explantation, or the removal of breast implants, has increased by 10 percent from 2010 to 2014.
Just last year, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) reported that approximately 24,000 women between the ages of 30 and 54 decided to get rid of their implants.
One of the reasons women have started to change their minds about their breasts is because they are taking on a different lifestyle. Many of them are eating better, exercising, and their bigger busts don’t seem to fit into their new life.
One woman featured in a Fox News article by the name of Christie reported that she felt her chest looked fake after she changed her diet and worked out. She said it made it more difficult to run, too.
Another reason women are deciding to have explants is because they don’t want to deal with the upkeep. Older breast implants need to be replaced at some point, and going through additional surgeries isn’t something all women want to do.
Neck, shoulder and back problems plague some women, which is why some decide to have their implants removed. Usually, however, this applies to only those women who had disproportionately large breasts because they’ve chosen implants that are larger than their body can handle.
Celebrities are also deciding to downgrade their breasts. People like Sharon Osbourne, Victoria Beckham and Heidi Montag either reduced the size of their implants or had them removed completely.
Bust Changes for Every Stage of Life
Many people see explants as a trend. For those women that decide to have their implants removed, some may return to have implants again when the trend switches back to larger breasts. Some women, such as Tamra Judge from the Real Housewives of Orange County, decided to remove her implants, but later had implants put in because she admitted that she missed her larger bust.
It’s nice to have the option to change the size of your bust as you go throughout your life. At one stage of your life you may want a bigger chest, but as you get older you may want a smaller bust.
