Is Liposuction Right for Me
You should be close to your ideal weight and not be planning to become pregnant or gain a significant amount of weight after surgery. When you meet with our surgical team for your initial consultation, we will evaluate the way your body naturally distributes fat. We will also look at other factors such as your skin tone (i.e., its degree of elasticity) and your lifestyle before drawing up a treatment plan to address your concerns.
Types Of Liposuction
Tumescent liposuction - This involves the use of a special tumescent "wetting" solution, which is injected into the layers of tissue underneath the skin prior to fat removal. The tumescent fluid accomplishes several objectives: It numbs the treatment area, constricts the blood vessels to reduce post-operative pain and bleeding, and helps expand the fat cells so they are easier to remove from the body.
Smartlipo™ - We use the unique, laser-assisted technology of Smartlipo to melt away fat and permanently remove it from problem areas. Many of our patients enjoy the results they achieve with the Smartlipo laser liposuction system. During a Smartlipo procedure, our surgeons insert a laser fiber into the treatment area via a very small incision. When activated, the laser beam produces a gentle heat which targets, destroys and liquefies the fat cells upon contact. The fat literally melts away. Our surgeons use tumescent local anesthesia and unlike most surgeons, use a powered motorized suction which avoids bruising and associated discomfort and is a more thorough smoother aesthetic process.
Recovery from Liposuction
Because laser liposuction is a less invasive technique than traditional liposuction, it does not require extensive downtime. Patients will need to take a day or two off from work and avoid strenuous activities while the body heals, but many are back to work and their normal routine quickly.
Tumescent liposuction patients may have minimal postoperative discomfort and bruising, but these side effects will quickly dissipate. One of the advantages of tumescent liposuction and SmartLipo is the use of local anesthesia alone. Our liposuction patients don't have to deal with the "hangover" feeling or nausea that occurs with general anesthesia. They can eat regularly right away and may shower the evening after the procedure.
We encourage our patients to get up and walk around 24 hours after the procedure to encourage blood flow and healing to the treated areas. Non-strenuous exercise can be resumed about a week after the procedure.
