Most people are afraid of aging, but it’s unfortunately an inevitable part of life we all must experience. Everyone is different, however, and some people simply age more gracefully than others. While it can be hard to predict how the aging process will affect a person before they actually start to get older, there are some ways to tell if you are going to age well–or not.

Your Genetics

Your parents are a fairly good indicator of what to expect as you age. If they started to show signs of aging fairly quickly, chances are you will too. Of course, you may take after one side of the family more than another, so this method of predicting how you will age is speculative at best.

A Round Face

The face begins to lose fat and volume with age, so people with rounder faces (and more facial fat) tend to fare better as the years go on. With more volume in the face, a sunken look is avoided, and skin cannot sag or wrinkle as much as it does on thinner faces.

High Cheekbones

This much-coveted facial feature has another advantage: preventing the cheeks from sagging too dramatically (another telltale sign of aging).

Dark Skin

Fair skin shows wrinkles more quickly than dark skin, but it’s important to protect the skin, no matter what the type, to help prevent sun damage, skin cancer, and premature signs of aging.

Oily Skin

Your oily skin may have been the bane of your existence back in high school, but it could keep you looking younger as you age. Wrinkles tend to appear more slowly on hydrated skin than on dry skin.

General Lifestyle

Good habits, such as maintaining a healthy diet, exercising, sleeping enough, staying hydrated, and protecting your skin from the sun can all help prevent aging. Unhealthy habits, such as smoking, can swiftly accelerate the process, however.
