Plastic surgery comes with risks. Some people are more at risk than others, but everyone can decrease their level of risk by properly preparing themselves for their procedure.
Here are some ways to safely and successfully get ready for plastic surgery.
Healthy Ways to Prepare for Surgery
What you eat and do before surgery matters. Ensure that you follow these tips, so that your plastic surgeon won’t have any reason to turn you away on the day of your procedure.
#1: Eat a Healthy Diet
As much as you want to look good after surgery, do not try to go on a crash diet beforehand. A crash diet is one in which you fast or severely restrict calories. When you do this, you may suffer from malnutrition, immune system weakness, dehydration, or an electrolytes imbalance, which can cause issues during recovery.
Make sure you eat plenty of fruits, vegetables, and protein each day, and drink at least 8 glasses of water. This way your body will be healthy and strong when it’s time for you to recuperate.
When you work out, your heart pumps blood throughout your body. This includes your skin. Exercise helps blood move throughout the body more easily, which can help the skin and underlying tissues heal more quickly after your procedure.
#3: Be Honest
Your plastic surgeon will ask you a series of questions about your health, and will need to know about any medications you are taking. Sometimes, health conditions and medications can interact with prescriptions you may need to take during recovery. If you are not honest about your health or medications, it could put you at serious risk. Always be honest, so you can have a safe and healthy plastic surgery experience.
#4: Prepare for Recovery
Your plastic surgeon will inform you of what you’ll need post-op. Be sure you follow the instructions precisely. Have someone help you after the procedure, so you don’t have to strain to do anything. It’s also important to have someone drive you to and from your surgical procedure. You should not drive after surgery because anesthesia and post-op pain could inhibit your reaction speed and concentration.
