When considering breast augmentation, you probably want to know what your options are to make a well-informed decision. Fortunately, you have three types of breast augmentation options to choose from: saline, silicone, and fat transfer.
Breast Augmentation with Saline Implants
Women who opt to have a breast augmentation with saline implants will receive silicone shelled, salt water (saline) filled implants placed in their breasts. Women generally choose this type of breast implant because it’s the least expensive.
They also don’t have to worry about getting MRI examinations to ensure the implants aren’t leaking. With saline implants, women can see whether one has ruptured, which is a rare occurrence. If one does rupture, since it’s sterile saline water, it’s not usually a health concern. However, a ruptured implant should always be removed as soon as possible.
Breast Augmentation with Silicone Implants
Silicone breast implants have soft silicone shells, which are filled with silicone gel. Women who decide on this type of breast augmentation generally do so because it has a more natural look and feel as well as having a lower chance of causing skin rippling for women with a small amount of breast tissue.
Breast Augmentation with Fat Transfer
With fat transfer, fat is liposuctioned from one part of their body, such as their abdominal area, thighs, or buttocks. The fat is then purified and injected into the breasts for up to a one cup size increase. If a larger cup size is desired, the fat is sent to an FDA approved laboratory and stored until the plastic surgeon is ready to inject it into the breasts several months later.
The body works to incorporate the injected fat into the breasts, which increases its size. Over several sessions, women can increase their breast size up to one cup size per session and work up to the size they desire. When women usually choose this type of breast augmentation, sometimes referred to as stem cell breast augmentation, it is because they don’t want implants or foreign objects in their body.
Many women also like the idea of losing fat in specific areas of their bodies and transferring it to where they want it. This procedure does “double duty” by accomplishing both objectives!
